In February 1997, Pat Pascoe, Winston Williamson and some friends called a meeting of people with classic motoring interests with the view to starting a Classic Car Club in Nelson.

The aims of the club were for anyone who has an interest in or drives a classic car (and we define classic as any vehicle that is a little different) to have outings and to enjoy these classic cars and importantly, each others company.

The aims have not changed and now with about 230 members, most from Nelson and Marlborough, we have gone from strength to strength and still our membership fee is only $20 per year.

Credit for the on-going success of the club is not just due to Pat & Winston but also Kevin York, Pat Dodson, Frank & Glenys Griffith, and a host of other car enthusiasts from the top of the south who have helped out over the years.  Special mention must be made of Denis & Helen Le Cren who have played an important part in the club’s development with Denis being the first first newsletter editor and Denis & Helen organising the Lord Nelson Classic car run for a number of years as well as the Charity Hospice Parade held in January each year.

Don Grant took over the newsletter from Denis in January 2006 and instigated this website, the idea being to distribute newsletters electronically and so save paper and other resources. Terry Byrne is the new editor and has even more plans ahead to enhance the website,  so keep popping back every so often or send him an email with any ideas you might have to editor@classicmotoringnelson.org.nz

The club holds events every month and our major events are the Lord Nelson Classic, held every second year and our charity parade held early in the New Year to raise funds for the Nelson Hospice; to date this has raised around $35,000.
